The story is about Simon, who is not openly gay, but has been emailing with a boy named Blue for a while. He definitely has a crush on him, but he doesn't know who he is, only that he goes to the same school. The book is not only an LGBT-love story but also has a little mystery to it. Who is Blue? When someone finds out about the emails, they blackmail him into setting them up with one of his friends.
It started off a little slow, and in the beginning I never thought that I would love it so much. The Dutch translation of the book bothered me a little, but after a while I barely even noticed that it was translated.
My favourite character is definitely Blue, you mostly get to know him through his emails, but I loved Simon and his friends as well. Especially Abby. The characters were interesting and had distinct personalities.
When I got halfway through the book, I simply couldn't put it down. I remember thinking about how I should probably go to sleep, but I neglected that idea within seconds. It was just so addictive and engulfing! I couldn't put it away until I finished it completely, meaning that I was up reading until half past one. It was adorable and way too freaking cute to put down!
I am giving this book 4.5 stars because though it was a little slow in the beginning, I simply couldn't put it down in the end. The story was interesting and engaging, the characters were wonderful and I would definitely recommend this to anyone interesting in an LGBT romance book!
Diversity rating: 2 stars (POC (?), LGBT+ (gay), minority (half-jewish))
