"His body was much heavier than she had anticipated. It had taken her twenty minutes to remove the sheet-wrapped corpse from the trunk of her car..."
Those are the first words from this enticing novel from Duncan Whitehead. It seems out of place to describe a novel that begins with the burying a body as "charming" but the fact that "Unleashed" takes place in Savannah might provide something of an explanation for that. The backdrop is perfect for a book that manages to combine murder and...well...dog walking.
This is the follow up to The Gordonston Ladies Dog Walking Club and it is a worthy sequel. Whitehead writes professional, compelling prose, and the story grabs you from the beginning and never lets go. Early on, I was kind of reminded of the quirky charm of a Tim Burton movie. Sure there's a dark element, but there's something about it that also makes you want to laugh. Recommended!
I could not wait to read Unleashed - The Gordonston Ladies Dog Walking Club, Part 2. Duncan Whitehead is one of my favorite new author discoveries. This is a follow up to his #1 Best Seller in Humorous Dark Comedy, The Gordonston Ladies Dog Walking Club, which was released in 2013. You do not have to read the first book to heartily enjoy Part 2, but why not have the entire experience?
In Unleashed, Mr. Whitehead captures so much of the Southern charm and mystique which has captivated the world with our quirkiness and eccentricities. As with all things Southern, all is not as it appears in the exclusive Savannah Georgia neighborhood in which this book is set. As the old Southern saying goes...Believe nothing that you hear and half of what you see. This book has plot twists and surprises which will keep you enthralled until The End. Oh, one more thing, think twice before you take the next drink someone offers you...
I highly recommend that you put this book on your MustRead list!
I pre-ordered "Unleashed - The Gordonston Ladies Dog Walking Club Part 2 by Duncan Whitehead because I so enjoyed Part 1. My copy arrived yesterday and I powered through it in one sitting.
Savannah Detective Jeff Morgan has two missing person's cases and a cold-case murder he think's he's solved.... Secrets abound and a killer stalks.
Murder and revenge are on the agenda. Corpses fall along the way to solving this deadly puzzle. Who will die and who will live to solve the crime in this suspenseful tale?
Part 1 was an award winner, and Part 2 will surely follow in its footsteps.
Great and literate fun for mystery fans.
As before, the plot thickens, and the residents of Gordonston, all with deep hidden agendas, resume their plotting and desire for revenge and retribution; twists and turns lead the reader once again to a conclusion, and another sucker punch ending that will leave them breathless.
I was exstatic when I first heard that Part 2 in the was to be released! At first I was a bit worried that this next installment wouldn't be able to live up to the first book. However, after having completely immersed myself in the book and read it from cover to cover, I'm happy to declare that my worries were totally unfounded. Again, Whitehead show clear signs of being a highly professional writer as he delivers on point. The story is intriguing, the plot is sealed tight, and the characters are alive and well-rounded. What I appreciate most though, is Whitehead's unique sense of humour and his ability to convey complex ideas in simple terms, and also the fact that everything he writes is so unique. Well done mister!
One thing can be said of the author; he knows his audience. This series is packed with drama and subterfuge--seemingly innocuous exchanges are anything but. Talk about a two-faced town, and the deceit is so well turned out that you won't see the twists coming. If you love a quirky mystery with eccentric characters, this is the book for you. Missing persons, clandestine pasts, murder, malevolence, and vengeance. A fast read that will have you rushing through the pages to find out the truth, then doubling back to see if you overlooked an important clue, if your guesses could possible be correct. You won't predict the ending on this one, though. Just sit back and enjoy the read.
You won’t believe what is going on in the neighborhood of Gordonston! Appearances can be deceptive, and Gordonston is no exception. What lingers below the surface of this seemingly serene and peaceful atmosphere? Well, murder, mayhem, and more! Mr. Whitehead has once again given us a twisting turning plot that is full of surprises and extremely interesting characters. Secret burials, secret agendas, missing persons, and romantic connections all under the cover of the overtly innocent appearance of a dog walking club makes “Unleashed” a must-read. This is a page turner of a novel you don’t want to miss!
If you like mystery and thrillers then this book is for you. I promise you that you will not be disappointed. This entertaining book has everything from action, suspense to delightful humor. You can’t help, but being amused by the seemingly friendly neighbors out walking their dogs. But oh dear, some of them are not as genial as they appear to be. Just as you thought you knew what to expect the plot thickens and the clever and very talented author has woven unexpected twists into the story. There is not a dull moment in this delightful and surprising tale. Highly recommended!
After reading the first book, it was hard to wait for the sequel, but after pre-ordering this book I knew I was in for a treat and soon.
As expected, 'Unleashed' turned out to be full of action and humor, delightfully complex plot and wild twists and turns on every corner. All unexpected is was happening, and everything that was expected turned out to be something completely different. Some delightfully familiar characters showed more depth, while others remain as they were, witty and fun, canning, plotting, wonderfully familiar. Coated with a generous amount of humor, this read was everything I expected it to be and more. Highly recommended!
Powerful opening. A real get-on-with-life broad opens the book with a kind of like Scarlet O'Hara strength and gumption. I'm hooked. Love these who-dun-its. Truly, the simple cover got me first. Art deco colors and nifty associations. Dog walking and murder. Sure not disappointed by that Southern hospitality, or am I? Before I knew it, the book had me scared to befriend any of the characters. Neighbours from hell! You won't be disappointed. Pick it up. He didn't win those awards for dark humor for nothing. "Unleashed" will tie you up.
An intriguing read for mystery fans! There are many turns and twists in the plot involving deceitful neighbors gossiping while on the pretense of walking their dogs. Mixed with horror and satire, Duncan Whitehead portrays his talents in this quirky suspenseful yarn. Intrigued by his colorful characters, I have added this author to my favorites. I recommend this tale to thriller fans with a massive 5 stars for an
