Reading history of civilization in details can take ages. I found this book a really practical summery of human civilization and yet not so lengthy and time consuming. Definitely focusing on some unspoken relationship between biology, geography and human development. Read it if you are interested in getting an answer for this question: to what extent are we effected by geographical fate? Did we as humans overcome the geographical obstacles or are we just robots following what geography imposes to us?
Yet as an easter person with having a background in eastern philosophies. I do not share his view when he judges other cultures as less developped than western. In this case his point of view is based on materialistic facts and not espritually (based on each eastern cultures are made)
