At sixteen, Kimberly Kirby thought the only thing she needed to be perfectly happy was to spend the rest of her life with Jay Braxton. Twenty years later, she still believes it. As they proudly watch their daughter, Haley, graduate from high school, she imagines her life is as perfect as anyone could reasonably expect. Jay is a formidable attorney, she a freelance writer, and their love as strong as ever. With Haley heading to UC Berkeley in the fall, Kimberly fantasizes about making love on the kitchen table. She has no clue that Jay's bags are already packed.
Now divorced and determined to squelch her love for Jay, she accepts a gig writing a sex and dating blog for divorcees. As the Virgin Dater, she is on the hunt for love. No-strings-attached nights with a sexy fireman and moving to San Francisco are just what she needs to boost her battered ego and mend her shattered heart.
But just as she falls for a talented young chef, Jay fights to win her back. Torn between their shared history and her bold new life, she questions if there is too much to forgive. The ten thousand I love yous that had passed Jay's lips can't be dismissed, but nor can her newfound freedom and the knowledge that her happiness doesn't depend on Jay.

****WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!****
Here's the plot. 37-year-old Kimberly Braxton is stunned when her husband (Jay) suddenly announces that he doesn't love her. He can't even stand to have sex with her with the lights on! While she begs him to stay, he grabs his suitcase and walks out. Wealthy and handsome, he wants to be free of their suffocating marriage. The guy is a total jerk in my opinion, but Kimberly still loves him. Nonetheless, a woman has physical needs, and one year later she's craving sexual satisfaction.
Here's where things get dumb. She flirts with a young checker in a grocery store and kisses him in the parking lot. She gets drunk at a nightclub, where she hooks up with a sexy firefighter (Kevin) and gives him a hand job (right there in the club). She enjoys weeks of steamy sex with the guy, but she dumps him when she finds out he's married. Meanwhile, Jay misses her and wants her back. I got so tired of her endless internal monologues about her marriage to Jay and whether or not she should take him back. He hurt her terribly, but they have a daughter and all this history together, blah blah blah.
Anyway, in an effort to start fresh, Kimberly moves from Davis to San Francisco, where she runs into the gorgeous checker from the grocery store (Joshua), who's now working as a sous chef in a Latin-fusion restaurant. He's ten years her junior, but insta-lust flares between them and leads to months of passionate sex. Naturally, Jay learns of the affair and isn't happy about it, so he does his best to come between them and worm his way back into Kimberly's life. Ugh! Joshua is a great guy who really loves Kimberly, but Jay is the "love of her life." Should she break up with Joshua and give Jay another chance? ("Heck, no!" I screamed. "Don't be stupid!") Unfortunately, Kimberly isn't smart.
The entire story is told from Kimberly's point of view, so we're constantly subjected to her self absorbed thoughts and feelings. I felt no emotional connection with her or anyone else in this book, but I did feel sorry for Kevin and Joshua and the way Kimberly used them for sex. The book is well written from a technical standpoint, with professional proofreading and limited use of f-bombs and other profanities. But the aggravating main characters and foolish plot ruined this story, lowering my rating to two stars overall.
