Prompt words can be an exciting way to kickstart poems and in this book in particular, Mary Grace van der Kroef uses the idea, which started as an exercise, to great effect in this series of emotional poems. It is always fascinating what may grow from and individual word.
And once again we are treated to a sample of her own artwork on the cover, which I always find important – a poet’s work is a mobile thing and sometimes a meaning must be tackled from a different point of view – there are always extra and rare words in a poets artistic application – in fact, I get the word: ‘stoic’ from her water colour, which I feel points to so much of the weight in this book – it is stoic – somewhat devout and highly entertaining in its search for compelling thoughts and avenues of creativity.

Her ‘Words of Weight’ certainly prompted me to write this review as a sort of reply from the wilderness. An echo back that I hope will also prompt readers to add this book to their library.
