5.0 van 5 sterren I giggled my way through this book. Until I cried. Sigh. So good. 28 februari 2017

This is like a very long postscript to the book Tell Me It's Real. In that book Paul Auster and Vince Taylor meet. And fall in love. And like that first book, this one is hilarious with its sassy character banter, witty wisecracks, and shockingly unexpected and often inappropriate jabs from one character to another. I laughed out loud so many times! (And also wondered so many times just how snarky is TJ Klune IRL, because to come up with some of this stuff, it has to be in there somewhere...)

Some of the funniest sections of the book were the 'bro-off' that the reader wouldn't expect Sandy and Corey to be so good at. But they were. And the clean sexting....I nearly choked. Oh, PSA: do not eat or drink while reading this book. You're welcome. Nana's comment about her $14 seeming like a lot - so typical of the Auster family banter. And one of the most precious lines: "I am a millennial. Someone might be tweeting something that I have an opinion on and will need to give said opinion unsolicited. It's what we do."

After 'The Queen and the Homo Jock King' I wanted a book for Corey so badly. And now I have that desire renewed but pretty sure we'll get that eventually. It will be an auto-buy for me when it's available. This book is 4 1/2 stars for me. I do have to say, though, that one of the FUNNIEST books I have ever, ever read is How To Be A Normal Person by this same author. Do yourself a favor: read this one AND that one. Your face will thank you.

Hoo, boy. TJ Klune at his Kluniest. The third in a series of sorts, here we rejoin the portly Paul Auster and his dim but beautiful boyfriend, Vince Taylor. This absurd, hilarious story is as heartfelt as it is ridiculous. The players are the stars of the first two books, “Tell me It’s Real,” and “The Queen and the Homo Jock King.” While none of us really needed a wedding, what better vehicle for more unfiltered behavior and quirky personalities, right?

Once again we have Paul being inappropriate and awkward, while his best-friend-forever Sandy (aka drag queen Helena Handbasket) provides snark and threats of violence. The secondary players, from gender-fluid Kori/Corey and Paul’s crazy (but loving) parents and grandmother, are all awesome as I remember them from the earlier books. These folks are crucial to the story, for their comic effect, but even more importantly for their resonance in the narrative’s overall emphasis on the power of love to bring happiness.

For all its Three-Stooges-like lowbrow comedy, “Until You” is a paean to true love—not just the romantic love between soulmates, but the love for friends and the love of parents as well. There is a great deal of bad language (in spite of constant requests to watch it in the dialogue) and a substantial quantity of sexual behavior that make this exactly what Klune wants it to be: a celebration of gayness with no apology and no boundaries.

One detail I particularly love is the fact that Paul is plump. Unapologetically so, or at least he never really tries to lose weight or build muscles. In spite of the fat-shaming endemic to the world in general and the gay world in particular, Paul is supported by everyone to be true to who he is. So very refreshing.

TJ Klune’s books are all imbued with his distinctive prose style; but beyond that they are wildly different in content and emotional impact. I’ve loved everything, although not all his books appeal to everyone (and why would they?). For those of us who revel in the diversity of contemporary gay fiction, Klune is a one-man smorgasbord.

This book is EVERYTHING! I want to give it ALL THE STARS! Paul and Vince are easily two of my all time favorite characters and TJ Klune gives them their perfect HEA! It's hilarious and quirky of course but it's full of true love and caring hearts, just like Vince and Paul.

As Paul and Vince plan their wedding we get to go along for the ride, and it's on a unicorn covered in glitter! Sexy Paul comes out, and oh my that is something that will never leave me, Nana reveals an even shadier side, Maddie and Larry are just the most awesome parents and Sandy and Darren are still rhyming their love! I laughed out loud and I cried (yes, but they were HAPPY tears) and I loved every freaking word. I truly hope we get Cory/Korie's story at some point.

Until You is wonderful fun and a great celebration of the HEA - thank you TJ Klune for this piece of happiness.

We already knew this would be great after reading Tell Me It's Real and The Queen and the Homo Jock King. I thought I'd highlight all the funny bits and ended up highlighting the entire prologue. As well as much of the rest of the book.
The thing is, when you're laughing that hard and the next scene is so touching and sentimental it makes your teeth ache from the sweetness, you know you're going to start with the big crocodile tears and runny nose next. Just a hint. Don't read this in public unless you don't mind everyone around you looking at you like you're a loon.
Vince and Paul, Sandy and Darren, Charlie and Robert and now Corey/Kori and Jeremy. And Mom and Dad, Nana and Wheels and Johnny Depp. I love them all and hope I get to read about and know them all much better in many future books.
Now hurry up with the audio release!

TJ Klune is becoming one of my favorite authors. He crosses genres with amazing ease, yet always captures each genre and character within with unquestionable grace and maturity in writing. The "At First Sight" series is told in a first-person narrative from the vantage point of a single character. In this series, the stories center on a small group of people who find their happily-ever-after, but only after lengthy and hilarious drama.

Paul Aster (stocky and overly dramatic) is marrying Vince Taylor (the simple-minded Homo-Jock King). His friends (drag queen Sandy Stewart and gender-fluid Corey/Kori) try to help him hold himself together until the big day. There's so much work to be done though as Paul is shockingly holding the wedding at a horse farm ("It's a ranch!"), much to Sandy's disappointment. There's the added pressure of the fact that Paul and Vince have a bet as to who will make the other cry first during their vows, and since Paul is easily driven to tears during sentimental moments, he's not all that confident he'll be winning the bet.

The book is a countdown to the big wedding day, and it's absolutely hilarious. As with all of the books in the series, there is moment after moment of having to put the book down so that you can try to hold back the laughter. I read the Prologue twice before I started Chapter One, it was so funny. The characters are colorful and well-written, the book is well-edited, and in spite of the over-the-top drama, there is the classic TJ Klune subtle grace to the writing. It doesn't cease to impress me that TJ Klune can have you laughing at one moment, and then pulling tears of joy from your eyes the next.

I recommending starting with the first book and then working your way to this one. While each book has a true beginning and end and can be read independently, they're all part of a large piece of these individuals' lives. All are funny and warm and will have you laughing and giggling and chuckling all night long.
