The war is on! Conflict grips the Iron Head Nebula and the star system that Jake, Ayan, Minh-Chu and their loved ones call home. The Order of Eden, British Alliance and other organisations creeping in the shadows enter into an all-or-nothing conflict that will change the political shape of the galaxy for centuries while Freeground is forced to leave its home space in search of help and safety.

This is what the crew of the Triton, the Warlord and the residents of Haven Shore hoped to avoid, but it was inevitable. The great galactic war has begun, and there are even more combatants waiting in the shadows to exert their influence on the conflict

5.0 van 5 sterren I waited and waited for this release. It did NOT disappoint. 31 augustus 2015

This book series, for me, is starting to be on par with the Orson Scott Card Ender series. I'm re-reading them constantly while waiting for the next book release. Broadcast 9 did not disappoint. Finished it in about 24hrs, and I've already started the re-read, before restarting the series. Lots of action, lots of drama, lots of military battles. The Spinward Fringe series has taken a 1st or 2nd position as my favorite SciFi series ever. It's a series I will continue to read until The Captain decides to story is over. When that happens, I will first be sad, then will re-read the series again. Can't wait for Broadcast 10.

Minor grammatical errors, which are to be expected from an Independent publisher, just not enough money to hire non-stop rounds of editors. I think that would be my only negative critique about Warpath. For me, it is dust in the wind, and doesn't matter. Story completely overrides any negatives I have.

Not sure if it will ever happen, but I think this could make an excellent TV series, and possibly movie. If it's done right, and I don't think Lalonde would sign off on anything if it was done right.

5.0 van 5 sterren Heck of a ride! 29 augustus 2015

After a surprisingly short wait, in the terms of novel releases, we get this wonderful, intense, speculative book. I say speculative for a reason. This book brings much insight into the characters we have come to love and root for, but also finally shows some of the internal struggles they have to deal with being " human". Battles, responsibilities, new tech, new disasters abound.

I for one am glad that the author forewarned us readers through his Facebook page about the cliff hanger at the end... still cruel, but at least expected.

With the promise that the next in the series will be available sometime in December 2015, I personally think I can forgive the cliffhanger...maybe!

I highly recommend that you start the series at Broadcast 0 which is available for free, yes it's a good tactic and it works very well.

If you are not new to the series and have followed our heroes throughout their struggle, then I still recommend a reread, or rebroadcast as we have come to know it! It really helps with the beginning of this installment, which basically picks up directly after Broadcast 8.

As for the cliffhanger, it opens up so many developments as to the future of this story.... it boggles the mind as well as brings hope for certain cast members.

Would I recommend this book to you, yes. But, I caution you, there is no cure for the lull. Or SFWS.

5.0 van 5 sterren A Return to What Made This Series Great 30 augustus 2015

Broadcast 9 is a return to the basics of what made me a fan of the series in the first place--great tactics and strategy, plenty of action and a renewal (of sorts) of the original characters. The read has plenty of length, the story line moves at a good pace, there is real meat to the read and there is plenty of adventure left in this series. If you yearn for the the feel of the early books in this series--this offering will not disappoint. I look forward to the Broadcast 10--Let's Get Ready To Rumble.

4.0 van 5 sterren but would make an amazing series or miniseries 25 januari 2016

As a space opera, this is right up there with Star Wars. The characters have depth and they draw you into their lives. The plot is much more complex than Star Wars, or most other space operas, for that matter. It's too involved for a movie, but would make an amazing series or miniseries.

Which only highlights the one glaring flaw in the entire series. The numerous grammatical and spelling errors are even more disruptive because of the quality of the content. Typos seem to be a given in e-books and self-published works, but there are consistent grammatical flaws which appear throughout the entire series; for example, confusion of objective and subjective case. ("Her and Jacob..." to begin a sentence.)

These books are so readable and the stories are of such quality that it is almost a crime to see them marred by such a basic flaw. It's like seeing a masterful painting with a terrible smudge across the most interesting part. I hope at some point Mr. Lalonde can engage a professional editor to clean these books up and give them the quality presentation they deserve. He is a gifted storyteller, and there is no shame in acknowledging he needs some editorial help. Nobody is expected to be perfect at everything.

5.0 van 5 sterren Sprinward Fringe continues to be the best science and fiction series by an independant author. a must read for all Freegrounders 26 september 2015

If you have not been sucked into the world of the Fringe, and you are willing to accept a dare.... I dare you to download the free Spinward Fringe: Origins Broadcast 0. It's LaLonde's entry into this genre and the story is written as 3 short stories introducing the world and many of the characters. Before you are done, be prepared to be ordering the other 10 books in the series.

As for B9, this story diverted in ways I hadn't expected, taking us deeper into the backgrounds and emotions of some of the most beloved characters. The story is very good, and while the pacing is a little slower from an action perspective, it delves more deeply into the areas being covered. Most importantly, for those who want to know if they'll want to buy this or not. Simply, you either loved or not the previous 8, that should be your guide. If you were as devastated by the events of B7 as I was, B8 and 9 will restore your excitement for the series as well as provide for the restoration that seemed so unlikely at the end of B7.

If you are a Sci-Fi fan, this series is simply one of the best out there. I will warn there are some grammatical mistakes at times, so readers must remember this is self published and LaLonde does not have access to the level of proof-reading major authors have. Only a few are truly confusing, such as 1 back in B1 I think where a character's name changed over a few pages due, or the occasional sentence which didn't get properly reworked and proofed. None should be concerning nor disruptive.

If you haven't read Sci-Fi in years, or have never really tried Sci-Fi as you don't think it's authentic enough, you really need to give the free Origins title a read. It's short and fast, and you'll either be dieing to know what happened to Jonas, Ayan, Minh, Oz and the rest, or you'll be glad you didn't have to pay. I believe you'll find yourself surprised this is Sci-Fi as LaLonde doesn't spend his time trying to impress with science and technology, it's about the people, not the science.
