George Carneal grew up in the ’70s, raised by a Southern Baptist minister in the ultra-conservative Bible Belt where his world revolved around the church, country fried chicken and trying to fit in with other boys. As disco music pulsated through the speakers in his bedroom, he plotted his escape from the misery and boredom of Southern suburbia before landing in Los Angeles; a city of glitz and hedonism. Much like Alice as she traveled through the looking glass, this is George's journey through a queer culture fantasyland filled with drag queens, drugs and dangerous situations before discovering healing, joy and peace in Christ. This true story details his struggles in a religious world at odds with, and often hostile toward, homosexuals.

To hell and back...a profile of courage, faith and determination21 januari 2019 - Gepubliceerd op Amazon.com
I am a Christian and to be honest with you, I wasn’t terribly educated about the gay culture and lifestyle. I saw a video of George on utube and was compelled to read his book. So glad I did. His testimony educated me as to the difficulties that gay men and women face and the difficulty that comes when you leave that lifestyle, embrace God, and repent. It can seem so simple to someone not dealing with these issues but it isn’t. On the contrary, it is an act of faith and determination to drop a gay lifestyle youve had for most of your natural born life. I admire George greatly for doing what most gay men and women will never do: leave the sin and run to the Lord. God bless you George. I’m so impressed and proud of you and I know God is going to use your ministry for his glory....

So thankful to find this gem of a book!13 december 2018 - Gepubliceerd op Amazon.com
This book is so entertaining as I can relate to so much of growing up with his generation. I can totally relate to him. George brought back so many memories of songs I used to listen to. Being able to get an insight on the struggles of dealing with same sex attraction and his personal stories of the pain and searching to be loved...and how God eventually got a hold of George. God never gave up on him. And so thankful he didn't end his life as the pain grew worse. The transparency and candidness of his writing touched me. The fact that George came from what the world would call a "religious" upbringing, his dad being a Pastor really must have been difficult to write. We all go through struggles and I am so thankful George was able to talk about his journey to Christ. It's refreshing and so needed at this time. I absolutely love how he shares how to be set free sharing the Gospel message at the end of the book. I believe stepping out in faith, knowing the enemy will attack, but allowing God to be glorified is something I pray this book will do for all who pick it up. There truly is a God who cares for us and has ways for us to live that are truly free. There is a joy that only one who asks Christ into their lives will know when they see how separated we are from a holy God and ask for forgiveness. One can and will know not only eternal life, but freedom and victory and power to live in this life. Truly a must have book for all and one to share with those living this lifestyle. To God be the glory! 2 Cor. 5:17

The truth about homosexuality, he didnt glamorize it or normalize it7 februari 2018 - Gepubliceerd op Amazon.com
I read the book in 3 days, could of read it in 1 if I had the time, I didn’t want to put it down. The writer did an amazing job and didn’t mince words but came from a place of no judgement, just love and honesty. I highly recommend this book for anyone struggling with SSA or if you have a loved one who struggles, I also think every pastor needs a copy in his library....thank you Mr. Carneal for sharing your story.

Recommendation24 januari 2018 - Gepubliceerd op Amazon.com
"From Queer to Christ" by George Carneal, was one of those books one devours in one sitting. It will be part of my library from here-on to be read over and over again. Although I do not know Carneal personally, after reading From Queer, I felt as though I've known him all my life, given we share a personal background, and share similar histories and challenges. The most important thing we have in common is our desire to comport our lives to the will of Christ. I know without any equivocation, nothwithstanding my gay orientation, Christ loves me, and makes a way for me...for you as well. THANKS for your inspiration, George.

Honest and transparent21 maart 2019 - Gepubliceerd op Amazon.com
George Carneal gives an honest and heartfelt account of his formative years as he struggled to understand and reconcile his sexuality with his evangelical Christian upbringing. Frank and revealing without wandering into salaciousness, From Queer to Christ should be required reading for anyone who desires to show true, restorative compassion to the gay community. As author Sy Rogers has said, all of us—gay or straight—are broken and have deficits. We express those deficits differently, but they are there. Christ came to heal the broken and give us new life. Only in Him can we be truly free.
