So what could go wrong? Everything.
Riots erupt in Haven’s overcrowded refugee camps, and coyotes dump immigrants in the desert. Criminals who prey on the innocent claim her home world—and its citizens—as their own. And they’re not afraid to destroy a space station or a colony to get it.
But when Meriel gets in their way, they come for her family and friends, and the time for hiding is over. But to protect them, she must face the horrors she’s been hiding from, and the monster who created them.

All the characters are back from the first book (those that survived), both the good and the bad. The Good Guys remain the scrappy underdogs and the Bad Guys are revealed to be even more vile than we thought.
And in an odd way, the Bay Guys are both as omnipotent and incompetent as every supervillain stereotype. They repeatedly manage to capture the MC, or at least get her under their knives, guns, bombs, etc. and every time they go into the equivalent of the supervillain exposition of their Supreme Master Plan (or proceed to torture her for “information” they already have or don’t need) and give the heroine time to wiggle out of their clutches.
My only two minor gripes about this particular book are that the Bad Guys, who are basically the leaders of the largest government in the galaxy, are simultaneously so evil that they kill countless thousands every year and harvest their organs and send them to the slave mines, etc., etc., and yet they foolishly toy with MC instead of outright killing her, even as she repeatedly does them harm.
The other issue is a few sections of lengthy flashbacks of very, very minor characters. These flashbacks all show how vile the Bad Guys are and how long they’ve been toiling over their Machiavellian plans, but we already know that they’re horrible vile evil scum. These flashbacks do provide some insight to the actions of some of the current Bad Guys, showing how they arrived at this point in their lives, but I think most of those flashback scenes could’ve been tightened up a bit or cut completely.
Oh, and one more bit of beef - six years between books is an eternity in the ebook publishing biz, and this story is interesting enough that I don’t wanna wait that long for book three!
If you enjoy this story and are looking for something generally similar, check out Freehold by Michael Z. Williamson, the Once Giants series by Eugene Kirk and Garan Mad, Perilous Waif by E. William Brown and the Loralynn Kennakris series by Owen R. O’Neill and Jordan Leah Hunter.

From the moment I finished the first book in the series, I knew I had to continue on with "Pandora's Razor." And I'm glad I did - this book more than exceeded my expectations. The story is full of plot twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end. The characters are distinct and well-developed, and the action and settings are described in vivid detail, making it easy to get fully immersed in the story.
One of the things I enjoyed most about "Pandora's Razor" is the way author Ray Strong shifts the narrative. Just as I thought I had a handle on the motives of a certain character or the direction of the story, he would surprise me with a new twist that added to the suspense and kept me on the edge of my seat.
I highly recommend "Pandora's Razor" to fans of sci-fi adventure. Ray Strong has written a compelling story that I couldn't put down and I'm excited to see where he takes the "Hope's War" series next.

For readers new to Ray’s series, the following introduces the titular character: ‘In 2177, twelve-year-old Meriel Hope solo-jumped into Procyon System with a ship full of dead people. Ten years later, the most powerful interests in the galaxy aim to kill her for what she might remember. Murdered parents and a busted spaceship, that’s what pirates left to Meriel and the orphans from the Light Speed Merchant Princess. But her past will not stay buried. While searching for a mythical planet called Home, she trips alarms that protect the killers…and the biggest secret in human history.’ Given that insight this novel opens as follows: ‘The grey cloud stretched to both horizons, racing Meriel Hope’s caravan to the refugee camp. Behind them, the cloud dwarfed the thousand-foot-tall dome of Stewardville and flashed with arcs of static lightning. A lurch of the armoured personnel carrier woke Meriel with a bang of her head on the barred window, and she slapped her thigh for the side arm that wasn’t there….’ The year is now 2188 and the story unfolds, operatically!
The space world created for this series becomes nearly visual with the author’s polished skills of writing. His second episode follows the plotline as follows: ‘After surviving her parents' murder and a decade-long crusade to silence her, Meriel built a quiet life with John and stepdaughters in the far-star colonies. But to protect them, she must face the horrors she’s been hiding from, and the monster who created them.’
With a considerate nod to the reader, Ray ends the book with an ‘earther glossary’ and a complete cast of characters and places. The response – the desire to read Book 1 and anticipate the next volume. Quality space opera! Grady Harp, July 22

Fans of science fiction will rejoice when reading this installment. The characters are diverse and the action is very fast paced. The story is engaging and hooks the reader from the opening pages and does not let go until the end.
