A Novelist's Guide to Pittsburgh: An illustrated guide to the city in which all my books are set (English Edition) Kindle-editie
Also: This eBook has a large number of exhibits and photos. It is formatted to be read in landscape mode with what I assume is the default font. I reviewed the book on KDP’s Kindle, Tablet and phone simulation and I was pleased with the results. Of course, your device and your reading preferences may be different. I hope you have a pleasant reading experience.
At the time of this book’s publication, I have five novels—all set in Pittsburgh—available on Amazon and on Audible. A sixth book, Poetic Justice—to be released in June 2025—and my current work-in-progress are also set in the Pittsburgh area. I don’t think there’s a better city in which an author can work. The history, geography and the seemingly endless list of interesting buildings, attractions and places to go, not to mention the curious ways of going places, supports everything any of my characters have ever wanted to do.
I have always tried to include enough context so that a person unfamiliar with the city won’t feel lost, but without sounding like I work for the Tourist Bureau. Still, I’m certain some people have scratched their heads on occasion. So, I decided to publish this “Guide” as a way of placing the events in a more explicit context. I also hope that by including photos from some of the more significant destinations, readers of my books could feel more connected to the scenes. Again, reading this book isn’t necessary—there won’t be a test—but it may be helpful and enjoyable. That’s my goal.
I’ve written about Pittsburgh often on my blog NoFacilities.com, and I’ve share hundreds of pictures from visits to the city. Most of the photos in this book were taken by me or by my daughter during those visits. Pittsburgh is the perfect setting because it’s big enough to have big-city amenities and problems, and it’s small enough to have an amazing amount of hometown charm.

D.L. FinnBeoordeeld in de Verenigde Staten op 8 juli 20255,0 van 5 sterren Great guide and background!
Formaat: Kindle-editieGeverifieerde aankoopA quick read but a fact-filled guide to Pittsburgh that attracted my attention from the first page to the last. Not only did I get a tour of a city I wasn’t familiar with, but it highlighted how this city fit into Mr. Antion’s stories. Unaware of the three rivers and numerous bridges, I was most surprised by the stairs. It would be fantastic to bring this with me on a visit to the city, but it's also enjoyable to read about interesting settings in books. A place brought to life that I fully appreciated, and a book I can easily recommend!

Suzette BenjaminBeoordeeld in Canada op 12 mei 20255,0 van 5 sterren A rare and generous glimpse into the local settings of the author's fictional environments.
Formaat: Kindle-editieGeverifieerde aankoopThe author, Dan Antion, remarks in this engaging illustrated book that one of the things an author does is create the world within which the fictional story's characters' stories exist.
"A Novelist’s Guide to Pittsburgh: An illustrated guide to the city in which all my books are set." is Dan Antion's superb and generous book revealing, like never before, the settings for his compelling, otherworldly nuanced, and multi-dimensional (in time and space) "Dreamer's Alliance" fiction series, his Rascal Todd Mysteries, and his upcoming (in June) offering.
This book provides well-illustrated insight, shored up by Dan's own professional photos along with some taken by his daughter, of landmarks, areas of interest, and tourist destinations that serve as the stage for his richly developed books.
For fans of any of Dan Antion's books as I am, and for authors who want insight into how and where to place fictional characters in a story using real places as "the stage," this book is invaluable.
I thoroughly enjoyed the read and the lavish photos. I highly recommend "A Novelist’s Guide to Pittsburgh: An illustrated guide to the city in which all my books are set with a rating of five stars.

Christine RobinsonBeoordeeld in de Verenigde Staten op 8 juli 20255,0 van 5 sterren Interesting history & locations for the book
Formaat: Kindle-editieGeverifieerde aankoopThe authors, Dan & Willow have written a very interesting and complete history of the book, and other books in the series. I love details and got complete details of each place setting in each book. Setting is so important to fix your mind on where stories and what era they take place. Round out the series and read A Novelist guide to Pittsburgh. It’s well worth it.

Pete SpringerBeoordeeld in de Verenigde Staten op 18 juli 20255,0 van 5 sterren Excellent Resource Book for Pittsburgh and Dan Antion's Books
Formaat: Kindle-editieGeverifieerde aankoopAs authors, we try to paint paictures with words. The problem is what writers see in their heads is not always the same image that their readers get. That's where a resource book like Dan Antion's comes in so handy. Dan's knowledge of the Pittsburgh area is impressive, and I have very little memory of the city, having only visited it once as a small child.
Since Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas are the setting for Antion's books, many of the places in his novels are either real spots or based on actual locations. This resource book is filled with pictures and descriptions of the Pittsburgh area. The author goes on to describe which books these places are found in. Having already read two of the author's fictional novels, I can see how this book would come in handy when I don't have a clear vision in my head. I learned a greeat deal about the primary rivers, tunnels, and bridges. A mind blowing piece of knowledge Antion includes is that Pittsburgh has over 400 bridges, which is even more than Venice.
If I ever travel to Pittsburgh, I will definitely bring this book along as it provides lots of details without being overwhelming. It's a short read, easy to complete in one session.
