High school senior Luke sees the walls of his life closing around him as he spends more and more of his time caring for his mother, who is very ill. He dreads the day his three best friends graduate and leave him behind for college. His only escape is fantasy video games, and he cherishes every minute spent with Cassie, Christopher, and Mack.
It's all too appropriate, then, when his chance for adventure comes in the form of a virtual reality game. When a mysterious older man shows up at Luke's door, he reveals a family secret that the young man would never have dreamed of. Because of this lineage, only Luke can enter Neverfall, the world's first immersive VR game technology, with a Dungeons and Dragons styled world so realistic that the beta players have forgotten their true selves and believe that the game is real.
Luke and his friends must become the heroes they've only pretended to be in games. Join rogue wood-elf Cassie, pacifist high-elf healer Christopher, dwarven berserker Mack, and battle mage Luke as they dive deep into the game to rescue the humans trapped inside.
