Very well written but too dark for me

This book was very well written and fairly gripping but I found the childhood abuse just too much to make it enjoyable. This was accompanied with some times when the relationship developed beautifully and other times when there was so much angst I had to take a breather and do something else for a bit. The epilogue was rather brief and very dark again.

Some will love it but I decided that, on balance, I should delete it to avoid reading it again.

I don't know if the end was a cliffhanger or not. It wasn't about the book couple, but about the villain. It did leave us with some questions. I hope Helena doesn't get her own story because she doesn't deserve a happy ending. Tragedy doesn't excuse us from treating others like crap. Ever. If the cliffhanger means more with Lily and Chase, I'll pass. I didn't like the couple and I absolutely abhor cliffhangers. Ok, now that all of that is out of the way...I enjoyed the plot. It was different and the hacker\nerd element is always a favorite of mine. Lily...I already can't remember the other name she used in the story...had a cold and unremarkable personality. Her and Chase were so proud about using others and having such callous regard for sex and the opposite sexes. I found them both to be shallow and dis-compassionate. Lily pretty much bragged at never going without shallow sexual encounters and how she didn't engage emotionally because it's all men were good for. Sixteen years of man after man. Ewww. Chase wasn't much better, but he was a little more humane. Overall, their characters were cold fish with the capacity for potential that neither never reached. This author is a pass for me.

I never read fiction, let alone romance novels. A friend recommended this book to me and out of pure friend obligation, I picked it up.

And then I couldn't put it down. The use of allegory is surprisingly good for a romance novel. There is also a great level of intelligence in the story line that I found surprising. If you are sitting at home, it's raining, and you need some entertainment, this book is for you. So get a blanket and some tea.... *

*You could also read this book on a lounge chair at a beach. Just saying.

This book was so good! I couldn't believe it was written by a first time author. The character development is excellent & sucked me in. Jasmine is clever, witty, lovable and someone I would love to banter with. Chase is the man we all dream of. Smart, good looking, and dangerous at the same time. I absolutely adored Nicki and her quirkiness and quick wit...she sounds like the kind of chef I would love to have as friend & "Death By Chocolate Cake" sign me up. I look forward to many more great books from this author.

I loved this book! The story line is excellent and engaging, with romance, steamy sex and surprising plot twists that kept me engrossed until the last page. A wonderful story about moving past family betrayals and broken-ness. The characters 'hooked' me emotionally and left me eager to know more before all was revealed. The author's use of humor left me wanting more as the story unfolded. I hope to see additional books from Laila Amlani very soon!
