The most uncomfortable chapter is when a group go to an underground grotto below a temple. There is a certain transformation that occurs that had me between cringing and laughing.
Overall, I felt that this story arc is rushed. The battle at the beginning just prolonged the "new enemy" and was just filler. Plus the end result was idiotic. What really made me angry was they just flipped multiple character personalities as a possible addition to the harem (I'll mention who in spoilers). Plus there are plot holes a mile wide in this story (I'll point out a few in the spoiler section).
Personal thoughts (SPOILERS)
-One of my pet peeves about this series is that they explain the same magic phenomena REPEATEDLY.
-One of the few things I like were Suimei and his dad's relationship. I hoped to learn more of his mom. It also explains his inferiority complex.
-Hatsumi does recover her memories
-Yes, Hatsumi is added to the harem (Japan still allows first cousins to marry...).
-Hatsumi goes full yandere on Suimei (probably the most well written comedy scene in this series)
-WHY DID IT TAKE THE CULT SO LONG TO KIDNAP HATSUMI?! Suimei easily met with her twice, why couldn't they?!
-Graziella was this imposing, brash war princess and becomes a tertiary character without any personality. I am PISSED that her character does a 180. She is being setup as a possible love interest for either Reiji or Su-mei.
-WHY THE HELL IS IT NECESSARY FOR MIZUKI TO HAVE FEELINGS FOR SUIMEI, AND THEN SUIMEI BRAINWASH HER?!
-Suimei protects Reji and Mizuki by hiding his identity, but apparently has no issues brainwashing them when it is convenient. If they discover his secret life, he can brainwash them. He has no issue doing it!
- Mizuki has now become a Lefille alternative character.
-Ilzarl = Kefka
-LAST, the cult's objective is to build a society or world that doesn't rely on the goddess or magic. But they still use magic (without said goddess). Problem is that you have to show the benefits of convincing converts why your method is better or correct. It is obvious Gottfried is someone from Suimei's world. He/She knows the consequences of a world that is not reliant on magic, but actively hates it. NONE OF THAT IS EXPLAINED.
Seeing Hatsumi's cgaracter development and the real entrance of a third faction was a nice touch!
And then the Mizuki twist was a nice touch.
I still don't like Reiji or his party all that much though.
