This is primarily a story of the kings of England. There is no mention of Chaucer or much of anything else happening outside the kings and parliament. Wars, disputes, beheadings, &c abound, but there is little connection to other important happenings. E.g. Wycliff (Hume spells it Wickliffe) is mentioned because he caused some political trouble. Tyndale, not a word. As the age of reason approaches he mentions artistic and scientific endeavors in independent passages.

This was Hume's most popular book and a major source of his income. It is old, but this seems to do no harm except in details. It is long, but length is needed to cover each reign. The prose is very clear. Read it if you have the time.

work of genius. Hume covers the period from
Ceasor to the late 1600's . Enjoy this classic
by this giant from Scotland !
