Invisible tanks. Thought-controlled fighter jets. Drone swarms. Rail guns slinging Mach 6 slugs. Terminator-style robot troops and cyborg fighters. Space based lasers blasting threats on the ground. Micro missiles. Next-gen mega stealth bombers traveling an entire continent in under an hour….Sound like the stuff of science fiction? Just a few examples of the very real military tech in development and explained in this book.

Future Weapons: Access Granted gives you an insider’s look at the latest remarkable advances underway that will shape battles to come. You’ll find future aircraft, vehicles, submarines, warships, drones, robots, weapons and much, much more for land, air and maritime combat.

In this book, defense expert Allison Barrie shares her ultra unique access with readers. Barrie travels around the world searching for game-changing breakthroughs. She has the extraordinary privilege to explore the most elite government and commercial installations, where shrouded in secrecy behind heavily fortified walls, they make the most cutting-edge innovations for war. And she doesn’t just get to see this future tech - she regularly gets to test it out and kick those next-gen tires.

From Transformer-type assault vehicles through to Predator-style chameleon armor that disappears into its surroundings, Barrie takes the mind-blowing favorites from her FOX Firepower column as seen on FOX News, dives into more of the latest and greatest, and puts it all together in one jam-packed book.

A fun and easy read, pick up a copy to discover what insiders know about how future wars could be fought. Arm yourself with some cool jaw-dropper facts to drop over beers with your friends.

4.0 van 5 sterren I enjoyed the content of the book 17 oktober 2016

I enjoyed the content of the book. I gave it 4 stars because of the multiple cases of redundancy. I would have enjoyed it more had I not been forced to skip over all the explanations of the meaning of DARPA. Those of us who read this genre of material can remember what DARPA stands for after a single explanation.

1.0 van 5 sterren Future Weapons - a collection of 3x5 card notes thrown into a disorganized book 12 oktober 2016

Although the author touched on a lot of systems, the writing was more like a high school book report than a professional analysis. The author used all the acronyms, but failed to include a glossary or list of definitions. No index at the end of the book makes it hard to find information quickly. The write up on the systems appears to be a blend of manufacturer product slick and demonstration notes. Definitely not a Jane's for dummies. If the author had included references and links to more literature on the systems, it may of had some value. As is, not very useful.
5.0 van 5 sterren Where the research dollars are going 20 januari 2017

All four services are covered. Many new concepts are explained as to how they work. As I read the book, I could see that 3 different categories of development were discussed.

Prototypes being tested now
Informercials from the manufacturers touting assumed benefits
Daydreamers solutions which might lead to funding and further research

The sheer volume of weaponry is really impressive. It also leads to the conclusion that there isn’t enough money to go into production or even fund further development for most of these systems. It is really a guess at what other countries are developing so as to know what counter measures will be effective. Its always been that way.

I was impressed with the myriad of high tech that is expected to be the replacement for humans. Some of these are cheaply designed using computers rather than the more expensive build a test model and then test it.

I’ve watched a TV series by the same name and you get to see live fire demonstrations on replacements for current firearms. I did not find those weapons discussed in this book. That means there are a lot of inventors working on systems. Your imagination is going to be stretched.
