"Easy Easy Bebop" was written for Beginners and Intermediate level Jazz music players. This book helps the starting or intermediate jazz player learn to play jazz language without overthinking it. Because so many musicians young and older enjoy the book I was asked to write an article on the book's concept that can be read online. Just do a Web Search on " The "Easy Easy Bebop" Method of Learning Jazz as a Language". That article appears at the popular website "Best Saxophone Website Ever". The book's purpose is to help the player get the concept of jazz as a language by putting words to the notes of bebop scales mixed with chromatic, passing tones, enclosures and other musical elements used in jazz music. This isn't a theory book, it on the other hand is a book of immediate usage. There's no over explaining or confusing theory. Just read the words/lyrics to the notes/licks and play with expression. It's that simple. Players can start anywhere in the book and find licks and phrases that will be easy to remember just by thinking of the words to the licks and phrases. The book provides the material shown in a variety of keys, allowing material to first be learned in familiar comfortable keys. This is not a Chapter by Chapter book that can take weeks or months to understand and play with freedom of expression. This book isn't about the theory, it's about the expression. It doesn't breakdown or spend time or pages explaining what the theory is, it's simply incorporates all the complex theory into fun and easy things to play on the instrument. Musical book worms looking for pages and pages of musical theory may find this book too easy for them, but musicians wanting to have more fun on the instrument with less frustration love it. After using this book players can then read more complex theory books that explain detailed theory and should be able to play that material with more expression and without intimidation. That's because they would have had fun with the music first and will have a feeling of personal expression in the jazz music language. "Easy Easy Bebop" focuses on playing jazz as personal music expression and not just musical formulas.

The licks here are brief and simple — some as short as four notes — but they offer an introduction to the sound and use of bebop scales. To dispute another reviewer, most licks are provided IN ALL TWELVE KEYS. See the photo as an example. In my playing I need to work on developing a jazz vocabulary and feel, and I find these licks give me a good starting point. I learn a few, combine them, and go from there.

Love this book! Never had so much fun learning something! Notwithstanding the fun it's good solid instruction.
Just what I was looking for...

I play keyboards, but most expressive with left hand bass lines. No signicant conception of right hand scatting. These exercises will improve my dexterity. Way to go, DNR!!
$8.00 kindle worth every penny to a beginner.

Strictly for beginners. If you've struggled with those useless youtube videos that teach nothing (too fast or too complicated) this was written for sax but will work with any instrument (right hand piano). 134 pages of short licks over chords or 2 5 1 licks mostly in C (dm G7 C) contiain clever phrases ('lyrics' if you will) that give you 'emphasis' 'accent' note(s) that get your right hand doing 'be bop' EA sy EA sy be BOP - ITS da be BOP!. Since it's for sax, no left hand comping. Would love to hear an audio of the licks but for $8.00 on kindle it's not just some simplistic silly idea. He presents his licks in all keys and chords and with this knowledge and hard work, you could probably find (and understand) more licks to build up a 'tool box' and move on to e.g. approaches and enclosures. You have to figure out yourself what be bop scale(s) are applicable to the licks (dominant, major, pentatonic etc) but I bought it to play, not study.
best jazz book
