4. The number of times my delicate wings have been broken and clamped behind my back.
68. The number inked upon my skin, marking me the sixty-eighth pixie to be stolen.
87. The number of days I’ve been wrongfully imprisoned.
88. The first day the faeries will regret stealing me.

Healthy. Cheery. Vivacious. All traits Rosalie has before becoming enslaved by the faeries to make an endless supply of pixie dust. Now that Rosalie has been traumatized by slave labor, extreme desolate conditions and multiple deaths, this hardened pixie is anything but. When this rebellious teenager attempts an escape, she’s isolated in cramped quarters until she learns her place. Just as she begins to let go of all that hope, she finds an unlikely friend in Jack, the faerie assigned to guard her. Interspecies dating is forbidden in the fae world, so their growing attraction is unacceptable. And even if Jack can find a way to free her, they know the prison is the only place they can truly be together.

Book ONE of the Of Dust and Darkness trilogy.

5.0 van 5 sterren Awesome Start to a Series! 3 oktober 2012

This book was SO GOOD that I'm actually a little bit in shock right now. Holy. Cheesecurls. :O

So I haven't read too much in the faerie genre of YA yet, and this is one of the first books I've encountered, but I don't know if there's any book that'll beat this one. Devon's writing and her story-telling ability kept me roped in so tightly that I finished this book within 3 days (neglecting to do my homework in the process).

I absolutely love Rosalie. As a female lead, she is tough, resilient, confident, and brave. Even after experiencing some terrifying, life-altering things, she remains herself and never gives up hope. That's the type of female lead I like to see in YA literature. <3

And I am head over heels for Jack. Ahhhh ;) That faerie boy can rescue me from prison any day! I just love how playful he is - and especially how he interacts with Rosalie. The ending scene seriously made me cry. I was sitting here in my bean bag and I literally felt my heart break as I read that scene. Those two are a-freaking-dorable together!

The plot was a little on the slow side, but that's only because of the nature of the events in the book. Despite the repetitiveness of the events in Rosalie's slave life, Devon still manages to make each day somehow different from the others, and that kept me interested long enough to want to find out what happens.

Very promising start for the Of Dust and Darkness series!! :) I'm pining for more, and I can't wait until the next one!! I highly recommend this book! You will not be disappointed! :)

5.0 van 5 sterren She truly brought pixies to life. 16 maart 2013

In the beginning, before Rosalie was captured, the author described the life of a pixie in such a beautiful, perfect way. The details in her descriptions were incredible, and I pictured everything so vividly. Some parts after being captured were a bit disturbing, especially when I pictured the scene, but you have to expect that reading this book. You can't read the summary and think this book wouldn't be sad at all.

As for Rosalie, I definitely love her character. She's so strong and never lost hope.

Sometimes I felt like the word choices were a little awkward and took away from the story a little, but despite that I'm still giving this book a five-star rating. If you like pixies, read this book!

This book had everything that I love in a paranormal romance. Fae and a love forbidden, but too hard to deny. A-May-Zing!
