Succubus, slayer or soul mate?

He was a Drake, a dragon. She was a St. George, born to slay them. They were meant to be mortal enemies, yet for three days the shifter and the succubus had been insatiable lovers. From that union a secret child had been conceived. Now Caitlin St. George had to finally tell Sean Drake she'd not only borne his son, but that the baby had been kidnapped. And only Sean could save him…

The tasks in front of Sean were not easy. He'd had to give his family's enemy all he demanded…and then become what he'd feared the most. Would this mission cost Sean the last shreds of his humanity, or could love finally tame the beast within?

4.0 van 5 sterren A Fantastic Paranormal Romance Read! 30 december 2015
door Lynn Worton - Gepubliceerd op
This is a wonderful paranormal romance. I loved it!

Sean Drake is a wonderful character. I liked him a lot. He is loyal, loving and sexy. He is the youngest of three brothers, who also happen to be dragon shifters. However, Sean's dragon was woken by magic and he and his dragon half are struggling for control. When Sean meets Caitlin St. George, sparks fly.

Caitlin St. George is also a wonderful character. She is feisty, stubborn and deadly. She's a succubus and a dragon slayer, which makes it awkward when having to swallow her pride and ask for help from Sean, her mortal enemy and father of her child.

I have a huge soft spot for Mills & Boon romances. They were my favourite staple romances as a teen and beyond. I devoured these stories like candy at every opportunity, sometimes reading two or three a day. I must admit that I haven't read one of these for at least three years due to expanding my reading habit into other genres. Thus, it was like coming home when I started reading this book. I had forgotten how much I loved them!

This story is your typically formulaic romance, but there are a few twists that kept it feeling fresh. The story is told through both Sean and Caitlin's points of view, which gives the reader a chance to get to know the characters better. I love the chemistry between the two protagonists. The passion between them is definitely scorching, though not as explicit as some books I have read recently. Sometimes it is nice to have the heat without it being too in the face.

There are some interesting characters introduced too. Braeden and Cam are Sean's brothers' and are quite intimidating in their own way. However, Aunt Danielle is way scarier! Aelthed is a High Druid, imprisoned in an enchanted puzzle box by his nephew, Nathan the Learned. He's been trapped for hundreds of years in spirit form, though he still has his secrets.

This book is full of magic, dragons, danger and romance. I reached the end of the book and sighed in satisfaction. Perfection! I am now looking forward to getting back to reading these books once again.

Denise Lynn has written a fantastic, fast paced romance. I love her writing style, which brought the characters to life. The flow was wonderful too. I would most definitely read more of her books in the future.

I highly recommend this book if you love paranormal romance stories with bite (dragons and vampires amongst others). - Lynn Worton

5.0 van 5 sterren Imaginative paranormal adventures 1 september 2015

While it may have been some time since the last book about the dragon shifting Drake brothers was released, I definitely have not forgotten the innovative premise of the stories. So I am very happy that the third brother has been given the opportunity to tell about his life and the many difficult predicaments he has to face. Denise Lynn continues to make the paranormal details believable in her world where dragons are real, and nothing is ever easy for these magnificent beings when it comes to love. The characters in DRAGON’S PROMISE are fascinatingly original, while any supernatural aspects are always inventive.

Though Sean Drake is part of a family whose other members have supernatural abilities, he never had any longing to be anything but a normal human. But upon waking one night from a disturbing dream, his fears become a reality when he is now able to shapeshift into a dragon like his two brothers. Sean left home because of his actions during an unsettling event, but he thinks the time has come to return. Before he can begin his trip, a chance meeting with an enticing succubus leads to the couple experiencing uninhibited sexual pleasure for several days. What he did not realize at first is her family hunts dragons, so it is a good thing he made a quick getaway before Caitlin St. George comprehended his true nature.

When Caitlin shows up months later at Dragon’s Lair, a resort run by his family, Sean immediately recognizes her and wonders why the hunter has come. Her reason leaves him stunned, as their short affair created a child, and the infant boy has been taken by a foe who wants any Drake to be destroyed. Although Sean and Caitlin do not get along, circumstances demand they work together or their son may perish. The wishes of the kidnapper require him to give up items his family has long protected, but the desire to save his child is just as strong. Torn between duty and need, Sean must devise a cunning plan or too many lives will be on the line.

The background history of the dragon shifters and the other mythical beings with whom they come in contact is exceedingly creative, and I wanted to believe all the information revealed could possibly be true. Many of the realities that Denise Lynn conceives are particularly unique, thus making her story constantly entertaining. Whether it pertains to the hostility between wizards and the Drake family, or it relates to the reason which caused Sean to now be able to turn into a dragon, each situation comes across as probable because of conceivable facts. Dragon shifters have always held a special appeal to me, and those envisioned by Ms. Lynn are notably intriguing.

Since Caitlin is from a family whose responsibility it is to kill dragons, she and Sean would never have hooked up if their identities had been known. But she is too much of a temptation for him in that they are strangers, and their scorching sexual relationship resulted in them being linked together forever. Though he is a commanding person, she is not one to shy away from saying what is on her mind. This causes countless disagreements, where they verbally make their wishes known regardless of the consequences. Since she is a succubus, the attraction between them never entirely goes away and the lust they feel is often not easy to ignore. With their son being kidnapped, emotions run high as they desperately look for a way to get the young boy safely back. Sean and Caitlin must repeatedly overcome challenging odds to ever have a lasting relationship. It was also wonderful to revisit with many characters from the two previous books in the series. Imaginative paranormal adventures make DRAGON’S PROMISE enjoyably engaging.

Dragon’s Promise
Denise Lynn
Harlequin Nocturne, Sep 1 2015, $5.75
ISBN: 9780373009534

Unlike his older brothers Braeden (see Dragon’s Lair) and Cameron (see Dragon’s Curse) who embraced their changeling wizard status, twentyish Sean Drake only wanted to be an ordinary human. However, one year ago, reality changed Sean’s hopes when he shifted into a dragon for the first time. Now he considers returning to his family Dragon Lair after years away.

In a bar in the Detroit area, Sean’s inner dragon marks Caitlin St. George as his. Though confused by their attraction they share a one night stand before going their separate ways. Pregnant, Caitlin’s parents plan to give the baby away and marry her to a man who will control her worst urges. When Nathan the wizard kidnaps their infant, a desperate Caitlin informs Sean that he sired a child who was abducted. Avoiding Caitlin the dragon-slayer for distracting obvious reasons, Sean the dragon pursues Nathan in order to rescue his offspring and slay the abductor.

The third Drake romantic urban fantasy is a suspenseful super finish to the trilogy starring in this one the ultimate star-crossed lovers (her DNA demands fighting and slaying dragons like him and his to flight from her). Lynn world once again seems real especially the Drake family tree, but it is the protagonists who make this a winner as natural enemies united by their save their baby quest and love.
