In a high-stakes wager, The Rakes of Fallow Hall vowed never to marry. Fate, however, will play the final hand in the newest book from USA Today bestselling author Vivienne Lorret.

For the first time in her life, Hedley Sinclair holds the keys to her own future. She's inherited the crumbling Greyson Park, but the disrepair does nothing to dissuade her. No one will ever lock her up again or attempt to take away what's hers. No one except Rafe Danvers—the charming, fiendish man from Fallow Hall. He's determined to claim Greyson Park, but if Hedley isn't careful, he'll claim her heart as well.

Rafe has every intention of ridding Greyson Park of the conniving Sinclairs once and for all. The last thing he expects is to find the beguiling Hedley—the younger sister of his former fiancée—standing in his way. With drastic measures called for, he plans to marry her off in order to regain control of the estate. The only trouble is, he can't seem to stop seducing her. Even worse, he can't help falling in love with her.

5.0 van 5 sterren Cinderella, Again 28 april 2015

Rafe Danvers wanted Greyson Hall. He had fought for it and paid dearly for it. So who was this mere girl who said it was hers? She claims to be Hedley Sinclair, sister to his former betrothed. During his whole courtship he could never remember anyone in the Sinclair family mentioning a younger sister. It did not matter who she was, she had to see reason and leave, for she was mistaken, Greyson Hall was his family's legacy.

This plot is a very clever twist on the Cinderella tale. The book is fun, heartbreaking, romantic, hateful, beautiful, ugly. You will chuckle. You will cry. I usually hate these remade plots, especially fairy tales, but Lorret's version is fabulous. This is a fairy tale to be long cherished, just like the original fairy tale. The story is an emotional roller coaster that will keep you flipping those pages, and ending with a warm fuzzy, that warms your heart for days. So glad this is a series. I am clicking on Amazon to find the other Lorret novels now!

This book's Heroine is an "attic child.". In the old days, people used to put mentally damaged relatives int the attic instead of mental hospitals. The Heroine somehow survives being an Attic Child and inherits a house from her Grandfather.

The story is about the Heroine learning to live in the real world while falling in love and fighting her sister and mother for the house. There is hidden treasure, mean relatives, fear of re-imprisonment, PTSD, lots of trials to meet and overcome. So much potential for greatness! MaryJo Putney where are you?

This could be a riveting book, but it, unfortunately leaves more questions than it answers. I wish that the heroine had more time spent on her learning how to live in the real world. It would be a fascinating story but is not very well thought out. How can she not have good table manners, but know how to plant a garden to feed herself if she was locked up? Could she read? Why did her mother love her and then not love her? Did anyone in her family care for her? Why are the gaps in her life skills so random?

This is a 50/50 book. Fifty percent is interesting and fifty percent creates more questions than it answers.

Maybe this book was much longer with all of the details but when they edited it, they decided that we would not notice the discrepancies. I enjoyed the parts that were well written and was annoyed when things did not make sense.

For instance, there was considerable mention about a perfume cask that the heroine inherited, mentions of the stoppers being removed and destroyed, but when we are finally told the story about the cask, it made less sense and created more questions.

I hate writing bad reviews because I am not skilled enough to write a book, it seems unfair to criticize someone who can complete a book. I especially hate writing bad reviews when I am disappointed because the story could have been great, but somehow got tangled up and sunk.

If fifty percent was not very good, the other half was interesting and fun. Obviously I liked parts of this book, it is original and sometimes funny, but the funny bits are often absurd because it seems like the author just dreamed up funny scenes and plopped them into the book without any reason or common sense.

Reality is suspended in most romance novels, but this book just does not have even a little bit of common sense....from the first scene when she tries to light a fire in the fireplace of a home that has been empty for years (fire! Clogged chimney!), to the fact that she is in the rain trying to chop wood because she used it all without thought, to the next day?

The heroine is simply a ditz, and does not know her elbow from her knee.

5.0 van 5 sterren Another Ms. Lorret WOW! 26 april 2015

Hedley Sinclair has lived most of her life locked away. When she wasn't being verbally abused by her mother & sister she was treated as if she didn't exist. With the exception of the gentleman who her sister left at the altar...he had given her a nickname which made her feel as if he did see her & she fell a little in love with him that day. When her grandfather leaves her Greyson Park. Even though the house is in disrepair & she has no financial help from her mother she is elated...this is her chance for freedom. Until the 1 man she thought she'd never see again shows up claiming Greyson Park belongs to him & vows to prove it.

Rafe Danvers wants 1 thing in life...Greyson Park. The home that should be part of his family legacy. The home that was to be part of the dowry he was to receive when he married, the now hated, Ursa Sinclair. Sinclair...the name still makes his blood boil. Having been left at the altar by Ursa Rafe has no trouble accepting the wager with his 2 best friends...the last one unwed at the end of 1 year wins 10,000 pounds....since he now has no intention of ever marrying & the money will provide is final payment on Greyson Park. While staying at Fallow Hall with his friends he notices smoke rising from the chimney of Greyson Park & goes to investigate only to find a Sinclair there. A Sinclair that claims the home is hers.

Rafe & Hedley work together to keep the home from her sister & Rafe tries to marry Hedley off to the only remaining bachelor in on the bet so he can win the wager but most importantly be able to keep his deal with her mother to buy the property. Will they succeed? Will he succeed in marrying her off or will he fall head over heels?

Ms. Lorret takes you into the transformation of Hedley from invisible to visible & will have you crying, laughing & screaming.

Can't wait for the third book....The Maddening Lord Montwood!!!!

Hedley Sinclair has been shut away by her family in the attic, thinking she is deranged, and perhaps not a Sinclair. Her mother and sister look alike, dark haired, but Hedley is a blond. Later in the book one discovers Hedley was in a carriage accident and is also terrified of carriages and horses. Fortunately, Hedley's paternal grandfather leaves her a dilapidated estate, and with her sister married and living in the States, Mother evicts Hadley from the attic and home.

Rafe Danvers, former spurned finance of Hedley's sister, lives next to Hedley's new estate, and wants her of the main reasons he wanted to marry Hedley's sister. Hedley and Rafe meet, and of course fall in love. And there is a bet among Rafe and his friends that will be paid to the last bachelor standing. Ms. Lorret moves the plot along, giving the reader bits and pieces, slowly, but never boring.

This is the first book I have read by Ms. Lorret. I enjoyed reading this book and would read others by the author. I rate this book at 3 1/2 stars, as the story could have had more emotional depth, given Hedley's life prior to the inheritance and Rafe was a good hero. The plot was such that one could have been brought to tears, but I wasn't. That is what was missing in order for me to rate this a 5 star book.

I truly love this trilogy. Now Rafe Danvers, sworn bachelor, meets Hedley Sinclair, sworn bachelorette/spinster and the sparks fly. He is determined to have her property (once owned by his own family), and she is determined to keep the property she recently inherited. With her well-known ease of period dialogue, character development, and simple yet engrossing plot, Ms. Lorret gives up another delightful, somewhat suspenseful and thoroughly satisfying story of challenges and love found. Sheer pleasure.
