From rescue to romance…
Teach a wounded submissive the value of his service. The task ought to be an easy one for an experienced dominant like Henry Webb.
But novice Jay Kress challenges his teacher like no other. Still bearing the bruises of an encounter outside the bounds of safe consensual play, Jay is desperate to submit to the man who saved him—and shamed by his desires.
Henry recognizes the dangers of a relationship built on hero worship. He’ll teach Jay how to stay safe, that’s all. He won’t take advantage of the younger man’s trust. He won’t share his fantasies about his dark-haired, athletic student. He’ll never claim this submissive for his own...

Becoming His Master gives us the backstory of how Henry Webb met, rescued, trained and fell for The Boy, Jay Kress.
As the story begins, Henry Webb has entered the BDSM club, where he is a member and a well-respected master, and has been summoned to the office of the club president, Victor, a long-time personal friend of Henry's.
The villain of the story, Calvin Gardner, a cruel, sadistic Dom, violated the club's use of safewords the previous week, violently whipping and analy abusing The Boy, Jay, a novice submissive, who had only been coming to the club for four months. Cal ignored The Boy's use of the safeword, and left him bound, bloody, and weeping, walking out as Henry intervened upon hearing Jay's use of his safeword followed by Cal swearing at the submissive and ignoring his use of said safeword. Victor and the club board have banned Calvin for two months for this violation of one of the most sacred club rules, but they are unable to banish him permanently as Jay signed some papers stating that the violation was inadvertent and a misunderstanding.
Victor persuades Henry to take on and properly train The Boy, Jay, showing him how a proper Dominant/submissive relationship is supposed to work, teaching him the proper rules, helping the younger man to get over the incident which still causes him nightmares, and enabling him to become the submissive he was truly meant to be.
Jay Kress, referred to as The Boy by Victor and Henry, is a natural-born submissive if ever there was one, but like an overexuberent puppy, the novice submissive falls into the clutches of a sadistic master, who takes Jay's beautiful gift of submission and trust, trampling all over it, satisfying only his cruel desires, and ignoring the lovely young sub's pleas and use of his safeword. Henry comes to the rescue and Jay refers to him as his saviour from that moment on, following Henry with eyes full of adoration and admiration - blatant hero-worship! Jay struggles to come to terms with what happened, and strives to obey his new, albeit temporary, master in all things, as best he can...
Follow the two over their eight weeks of training and lusting (for each other). Will Henry fall for Jay? The Boy is already in love with the Dom, or so he thinks... is it adulation or true love? Read this well-written tale and find out for yourself, the story of Henry and Jay - Becoming His Master.

Never having read a story by this author, and being drawn in by the cover ---> Mrs Shallow I know, I was surprised to find that this book is part of a series, all m/m/f and involving the same characters, and THIS one (book 4) is the one that a lot of the readers of the series have been waiting for (apparently)...the backstory of Master Henry and his sub Jay. Needless to say, as m/f readers will hopefully be buying it, the sex scenes have been toned down somewhat (practically non-existent) BUT regardless of that (yes, I can and DO read books without much sex), this was a cracking read. 5 stars from me.
Jay Kress, a novice sub, has been visiting a BDSM club where he receives some very unwelcome attention from an unscrupulous Dom, Cal Gardiner. Instead of being respected for his gift of submission, he is abused verbally and physically, and has been left in a very bad place in his head. The owner of the club Viktor, asks his very good friend and experienced Dominant Henry to try and ascertain what has happened to Jay, from his experiences with Cal Gardiner and others, too caught up in their own desires to give a thought about poor Jay and his feelings. Henry is a model Dom, kind and thoughtful, and very respectful of the submissive's wishes to give themselves completely to their Master, in fact I would probably go so far as to say that I found Henry to be a little stuffy at times, his use of language stilted and very correct, BUT his behaviour around Jay was exemplary, and the gentle way he coaxed Jay to eventually take part in scenes was touching to read about.
Of course, coming into close contact fairly regularly with a hero-worshipping sub has it's own drawbacks...as Henry discovers when he begins to fall in love with Jay. Henry has never kept his own submissive, and when he begins to see how wonderful a submissive the newly emerging, more confident Jay is, he realises that Jay is everything he's ever wanted in a relationship, BUT he doesn't want to make Jay feel that he is under any obligation to him. There's a very fine line to be walked here, and as anyone who looks at Jay can tell, he is definitely in love with Henry. Jay is clear in his own mind about what HE desires at the end of the 2 month training period he has with Henry...he wants to be Master Henry's sub and his alone, and to that end, has help from an unexpected source. Master Viktor's wife/submissive Emma (who was a real handful and such a great character) knows that Jay is exactly what Henry needs, and decides to do a little meddling of her own to get Henry to admit what is in his heart. Wonderful.

I received a copy from NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I didn’t know it was possible, but with each page that I read of Becoming His Master, I fell even more in love with Henry. As always, the beautiful dominant is ever present in his interactions with Jay. I loved how, from the very beginning, Henry set aside his own desires in order to give Jay the care and guidance he needed. From the previous books, we knew that Jay had suffered at the hands of a sadistic Dom and that Henry had interrupted the scene when it became apparent that Jay’s safeword had been ignored. What we learn over the course of this book is that Jay’s desire and eagerness to serve a Master had exposed him to mistreatment after mistreatment for months – sometimes actual physical abuse, but almost always emotional abuse as Jay was unable to express his needs as a submissive.
Because of Jay’s history, Henry had to walk a fine line so that he could teach Jay to identify his wants and limits, to learn to communicate them, and to learn that above all else, his own safety was paramount, all while not abusing his position of authority over Jay. Having spent three books with Henry, I was not the least bit surprised that he accomplished it. After all, we know that the two are together. But what is mesmerizing is how Henry does it and how he helps nurse the wounded Jay into the wriggly puppy we all know and love. My only complaint with Becoming His Master is that I reached the final page far too soon, but that has happened with every book in the series. Now the countdown begins for the next book in the Neighborly Affection series and as much as I LOVED finally learning Jay and Henry’s history, I do so hope that we return to present day to see how life fares for my favorite trio.
I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
